We never see the dark side. The moon is over 4 billion years old; it is not a planet, but a satellite of Earth. The moon rotates at 10 miles per hour compared to the earth's rotation of 1000 miles per hour. The dark spots we see on it that create the image of the man in the moon are actually craters filled with basalt, a very dense material. The craters are caused by asteroids, meteors, etc., hitting the moon. It has no global magnetic field. On the moon there is no wind. Water has recently been found there according to NASA.
